History

1954

Eltra (Electricity-Television-Radio) was founded in Antwerp by the Verbeelen family.

1995

Eltra becomes part of the Sonepar Group. In future, the business would focus 100% on the do-it-yourself market. The traditional wholesale activities were hived off.

1999

Eltra moved from Wilrijk to new premises in Temse. In the same year Fedoz, the DIY retail federation, awarded Eltra's services the "Best Service" trophy.

2001

Eltra took over the Dutch electrical and lighting distributor Elar. In the same year Eltra set up "DIY-euronet", an association of sectoral and Sonepar group partners from all over Europe.

2005

Six years after moving to Temse, the first expansion: the warehouse acquired an additional 2.000m². The business magazine Trends gave Eltra a deserved place in the list of "Gazelles", the fastest-growing companies in Belgium.

2006

Eltra opened a sales office in Shanghai. The company is mentioned once again in the Gazelle list.

2007

The Sonepar group acquired Unilectric, the Belgian wholesaler for electrical equipment, lighting, domestic appliances, sound and vision.
